For a child, it's an exciting time when the toy catalogs arrive in the mail in late fall. And many people eagerly anticipate the arrival of seed catalogs in mid-to-late winter. But, for me, the most exciting time of the year is when magazines start arriving with fall leaves, apples, pumpkins, and gourds on their covers.

That time of year has finally arrived, again. The temperatures are still mostly in the upper 80s, but seeing those fall covers makes me happy. I love fall. After 2012's hellish summer, I'm looking forward to fall more than ever this year.
