Learning Verbal Communication

Emily said Jonah was "talking" more and I noticed the change yesterday.  It's obvious he now clearly understands verbal communication even if we don't understand most of what he's saying.  He does know a few words -- cheese, dada, mom, bagel, kitty cat, Elliott.  But his limited vocabulary is no longer holding him back.  I wonder if the jibberish he's giving us is what he hears, similar to how a foreign language sounds.  No matter, Jonah seems to be constantly "talking" now.

At the same time, Elliott's language skills are also improving.  Since he could talk, Elliott's vocabulary has always been advance.  The notable changes taking place now are his story telling or descriptive skills.  When he relates an event or incident, it's as if he's reading a chapter out of a book.  We've never edited ourselves for Elliott's age and it shows.  If we use a word he doesn't understand, Elliott has no problem asking for the meaning.  And, amazingly, he'll use that word properly from then on.

I'm definitely enjoying this time.  And I'm hoping against hope that neither grandson becomes a sullen teenager!
