Update On Mom

Mom will be 80 years old on April 8, which is less than two weeks away.  She has said for years that 80 would be her last birthday.  If mom continues on her current course, she may not see her birthday or much past it.

The psychiatrist will see mom tomorrow.  Mom isn't sleeping at night and wants to sleep late into the morning.  She fights being woken at 11:00 A.M. so she doesn't miss a second meal of the day and can start her medications.  She's eating very little and beginning to lose weight rapidly.  She's also in a wheelchair because she refuses to stand or walk.  No matter how weak, however, mom is still fighting, verbally and physically.  She's yelling at and hitting anyone who tries to help.

After visiting mom last Wednesday, dad said, for the first time, that mom would be better off gone.  Today he said it again.  I came to that realization after mom's diagnosis eight years ago.  Maybe God's been waiting for dad's acceptance. However, that seems rather cruel since mom's now been stripped of all her dignity.  I just pray mom goes peacefully in her sleep, and soon.
